    blogs.mercurynews.com via @wilnerhotline  &bull Yesterday

My preseason poll is based on where I think teams will finish (because if your No. 1 is your best team, and hence your national champ/end-of-season No. 1, then doesn't it follow that every slot should be a projection of… Full Story »

The line about TCU quarterback Andy Dalton returning for his ninth season was a joke - it only seems like he's been around forever. Jonathan Okanes will handle the Cal report this evening - I'll provide the link here when it's available - and I've got Stanford on Monday. Each story will be written in the same basic format. 6. My 2010 Associated Press preseason top-25 football poll

    blogs.mercurynews.com via @ohiostatefan1  &bull Aug 6, 2010

Ballots are due Sunday (9 am Pacific) throughout the season, with two exceptions: Week One, because of the Monday games (no NFL that weekend), and the final poll, which is due immediately after the National Championship Game. I'll post my ballot on the Hotline every Saturday night/Sunday morning, with each team's AP rank provided (once it's available) A for comparison purposes. My preseason ballot is a projection of how I think the teams will finish. Especially in the early weeks, I'll make dramatic changes in the ballot - dropping the No. 3 team 20 spots, for instance - in order… Full Story »

I checked in Monday with Pac-10 commish Larry Scott (by email) and deputy commish Kevin Weiberg (in person) for updates from Friday's meeting of athletic directors to discuss the division alignment. Weiberg added that… Full Story »

  8. Pac-10 football: Connecting the expansion dots, adding up the TV dollars

    blogs.mercurynews.com via @CareerAndBizOps  &bull Jul 30, 2010

PASADENA a After an East Coast promotional blitz that included stops at the New York Times and ESPN headquarters, the Pac-10 returned to familiar turf Thursday for its annual preseason media gathering. Instead of a Los Angeles airport hotel, the event was held at the league's symbolic home, the Rose Bowl a smack in the middle of the brilliant green turf. Instead of opening remarks by the commissioner, the event began with a highlight video featuring past stars like John Elway and Marcus Allen and a booming, James Earl Jones-esque voice-over. An activity like this, and taking our show… Full Story »

    blogs.mercurynews.com via @calbuzztap  &bull Jul 29, 2010

It's the first time since 2002 that Stanford has been picked ahead of the Bears (and for most of those intervening years, Cal was at least five spots higher than the Cardinal). If you're looking for evidence - albeit it… Full Story »

  10. Commissioner Larry Scott: The man behind the new Pac-10

    blogs.mercurynews.com via @CardSportsNews  &bull Jul 27, 2010

The man who nearly reshaped college football never played or coached college football. In fact, Larry Scott went xxx years without attending a game before he became commissioner of the Pac-10 Conference last summer. The former chief executive of womenas tennis, Scott was an unconventional hire by what had been a decidedly inside-the-box conference. He grew up on Long Island, not in Long Beach. He studied European History at Harvard, not Rose Bowl history at USC. He has never worked in college athletics. Less that one year into his tenure, Scott made a bold but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to corral… Full Story »
