Spring Football: Scouting Mack Brown and the Texas Longhorns
Texas Football on Bleacher Report &bull Mar 10, 2010
So, I went to the second open practice Tuesday night and collected a few thoughts on the team to this point. Mostly I just watched the offensive line to determine blocking schemes/plays that were being used in the shotgun, 11 personnel, and I-formation plays. There were quite a few if half of them stick the Texas running game will still be more diverse. I was able to notice the following things when I wasn't trying to work out if they were pulling linemen as part of an outside-zone run or a sweep/power play. Barrett Matthews is going to make this… Full Story »

Tracking Mack: March 9

Opening statement: When you start working in spring practice, you start over with your leadership, you start over with the chemistry of your team, the morale of your team, and those are things that won't be answered until the fall, but they're things that we work on daily. We had a great scrimmage on Saturday. It was very physical. We got a whole lot done. It answered some questions for us. We'll have another one… Full Story »

Bevo's Daily Roundup - March 3, 2010
Burnt Orange Nation &bull Mar 3, 2010
Texas owns recruiting in February, and has for years. We were trying to build our junior day around our spring football game in April. But other schools were having junior days at their bowl practices and having them before national signing day. We just felt like we were so far behind." The Longhorns are definitely ahead of the game now. With the ink barely dry on the national letters of intent that 25 high school seniors signed with Texas on Feb. 3, the Longhorns already have 17 junior prospects verbally committed to sign with them in February 2011. While the… Full Story »

Why Garrett Gilbert May Surpass Colt McCoy And Vince Young At Texas
Texas Football on Bleacher Report &bull Mar 3, 2010
Vince Young? You've heard it all: high school player of the year, 30-2 as a starter, back-to-back Rose Bowl MVPs, breaker of the loss streak against Oklahoma (and likely saving Mack Brown's job in the process), responsible for the first conference title and major bowl berths of Mack Brown's long coaching career, national title, and a better NFL player (26-13 as a starter on a bad team) than people were willing to admit UNTIL TIM TEBOW NEEDED SOMEONE TO BE COMPARED TO. And Young would have had an even better career had Mack Brown put in the spread-option offense earlier.… Full Story »
