  1. CFT: Pitt, Syracuse assigned ACC divisions

College Football on NBC &bull Feb 3, 2012

The ACC announced Friday that Pittsburgh will be added to its Coastal Division while Syracuse will play in the Atlantic Division and that's it. No other members will be moving to different divisions as some had projected. We have been engaged in discussions on the various options for integrating Pitt and Syracuse since early fall," said ACC commissioner John Swofford in a statement. Additionally, the ACC confirmed in its press release that the conference will go to a nine-game schedule for football upon the arrival of the two current Big East members, which is expected to happen no later than… Full Story »

  2. CFT: Gilbert could play immediately for SMU

College Football on NBC &bull Feb 3, 2012

Under normal NCAA rules, when a player transfers from one Division 1-A school to another, they have to sit out one year - unless they've already graduated from their previous program. That exception could apply to former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who will be moving on to SMU after a pair of disappointing seasons as a Longhorns quarterback. FOX Sports Southwest reports that Gilbert is staying at UT and will graduate this spring, making him immediately eligible to compete for a starting job with the Mustangs. Had Gilbert transferred before finishing his undergraduate degree, he wouldn't have been available to… Full Story »

  3. CFT: QB Winston finally signs with Florida St.

College Football on NBC &bull Feb 3, 2012

Two days after announcing he would not be signing his letter of intent to Florida State on National Signing Day - although reaffirming that he was "a 'Nole" - five-star quarterback (Rivals) Jameis Winston has finally sent his signature to Jimbo Fisher. In a ceremony in Birmingham, Alabama, Winston made his pledge to the Seminoles official, becoming the 19th commitment to Florida State for the 2012 class. It feels great to be a Seminole. I'm heading to FSU. I knew for a while FSU was where I was going." Winston said. That was the difference from when I visited other… Full Story »

  4. CFT: Alvarez says Meyer is doing nothing wrong

College Football on NBC &bull Feb 3, 2012

At least twice in the past three days, the Wisconsin head coach has used the word "illegal" when talking about the recruiting practices of Urban Meyer and his new coaching staff. Former UW head coach and current athletic director Barry Alvarez, who knows a thing or two about surviving on the recruiting trail, addressed the accusations made by his football coach with ESPN.com's Joe Schad and seemed to subtly take Bielema to task for going with a public airing of his grievances. It's dangerous to point fingers and make accusations," Alvarez said. As for the issue of continuing to recruit… Full Story »

  8. Harvey-Clemons saga has happy ending

Georgia Football News on Atlanta Journal Constitution &bull Feb 2, 2012

Harvey-Clemons, an outside linebacker from Valdosta considered by many to be the top prospect in the state, told a national TV audience Wednesday that he would sign with Georgia over Florida, Florida State and Miami. But he never sent in the official letter-of-intent required by the NCAA, and the Bulldogs were never able to announce him as… Full Story »

  9. CFT: Ouch! Miles takes shot at ND-bound QB Kiel

College Football on NBC &bull Feb 2, 2012

For those unfamiliar, Indiana high school quarterback Gunner Kiel committed to LSU in late December - after he had committed to then decommitted from the Indiana Hoosiers, mind you - before flipping his verbal Bayou commitment into early enrollment at Notre Dame. Despite bringing in a big-time recruit - literally - at the position, the fact that Miles lost out on one of the top quarterback recruits in the Class of 2012 apparently displeased the Tigers head coach, as evidenced by the video below. Really coach? Saying an 18-year-old kid doesn't have the chest - i.e. And people wonder why… Full Story »

  10. CFT: Bielema confronted Meyer over recruiting tactics

College Football on NBC &bull Feb 2, 2012

In getting to as high as No. 3 in the Scout.com rankings, Meyer and his coaching staff flipped several highly-touted recruits, including some who had been verbally committed to other Big Ten schools. Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan State all felt the Meyer Effect in one way or the other on the recruiting trail, and it was the latter two programs that have not been shy about expressing their "displeasure" with the recruiting tactics that have brought to the conference. Wednesday, Cleveland Heights (Ohio) offensive tackle Kyle Dodson announced that he was signing a Letter of Intent with Ohio State.… Full Story »

ATHENS, Ga. - There was a lot going on elsewhere, especially in south Georgia, Wednesday afternoon when Mark Richt made his pronouncement about the suspense of this day. Actually, you'll probably find out in the next two to four years, and whether your school's class was ranked first, or 50th, it matters not; most of the National Letters of Intent have been faxed in - a prehistoric method - and now it's up the recruits and coaches to make a successful marriage. In the meantime, here's what we learned - or, remembered - from a busy and hectic signing day. Just remember that everyone's recruiting classes are like babies. Just minutes ago, offensive lineman Andrus Peat (pictured) from Tempe, AZ, the 32nd-best player nationally according to Rivals.com, sent in his NLI to the Cardinal. That decision came hours after Leesburg, FL, linebacker Noor Davis said he would be committing to Stanford as well. Davis is the No. 3 outside linebacker according to 247Sports.
